Course Content

The course objectives for FocusedTrauma Processing: Harnessing Memory Reconsolidation for Transformative Healing are to provide a comprehensive understanding of attachment, ACEs, memory reconsolidation, and gain experience in the practical application of trauma processing techniques used in ART, EMDR, and the Flash Technique. Each session will cover a specific topic described below in the first hour and in the second hour you will have an opportunity to view a recorded or live demonstration or pair off in break out practicum sessions to gain practical experience with these tools.

Exploring Attachment and Trauma: In this session, we will cover the basics of attachment theory, delve into different attachment styles, and examine how disturbances in attachment can lead to trauma. We will also discuss relevant research on attachment and its impact on emotional well-being.

Investigating Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Trauma: This part explores the concept of ACEs, their prevalence, and their long-term effects on mental health. We will discuss the research that links ACEs to trauma and its implications for therapy.

Delving into Memory Reconsolidation Principles: Here, we will dive into the theory and research behind memory reconsolidation, explaining its relation to trauma processing and the potential for therapeutic interventions.

Unpacking Reconsolidation-Based Therapies (ART, EMDR, Flash): We will provide an overview of ART and EMDR, outlining the techniques and the research that supports their effectiveness in treating trauma. This will include sharing case studies and showing examples of sessions, in action, highlighting elements of reconsolidation adaptable to the practitioner.

Exploring the Flash Technique: In this segment, we will examine the Flash Technique in detail, discussing its origins, mechanisms, and the research that validates its effectiveness. We will offer live demonstrations and hands-on practice sessions for participants.

Practical Application and Integration: This session focuses on integrating the concepts from previous sessions. Participants will engage in live demonstrations of trauma processing techniques, including Rapid Trauma Processing and the Flash Technique. Throughout the course you will be provided ample time for paired breakout sessions, allowing you to practice these techniques and receive guidance and feedback.

The course begins June 23 through July 28, with live group sessions scheduled on Mondays from 9:00–11:00 AM Pacific Time, 12:00–2:00 PM Eastern Time, and 4:00–6:00 PM UK Time. Modules can be viewed at your own pace, and our Monday sessions are dedicated to group practice, discussion, and support.

The full course fee is $597 and that includes 12 CEs awarded by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). Attendance for the entirety of the 6-Session Course is recommended to receive CE credits. Partial credit will be awarded. Recordings of sessions will be posted to the lesson page. To keep the training accessible I am also offering graduated fee structure. Is this an initial training, or does it build on other trainings like EMDR?

This training is designed as a stand-alone program and integrates well with EMDR concepts. No prior ART or EMDR certification is required unless otherwise specified.

Does the training integrate with EMDR skills?

Yes. While distinct from EMDR, the techniques taught complement EMDR practice and are grounded in memory reconsolidation principles.

Do I have to be ART or EMDR-trained to take this course?

No. Prior ART or EMDR training is not required. This is a separate training that stands on its own, though it complements ART skills if you have them. Training in specific proprietary techniques, such at Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is not provided.

Can I register now and access the materials later? What if I miss a class?

Yes. You can sign up and access recordings and materials even if you cannot attend live sessions. Participants will have access to materials and recordings to review at their own pace.

Will this training teach me how to adapt trauma techniques for online therapy?

Yes. The course includes instruction on how to adapt key trauma recovery techniques for telehealth and virtual formats.
